Hello, I’m Jeanette.

I am a Women’s Health and Orthopedic Physical Therapist.

In 2007, I found myself struggling with a shoulder injury. As a Physical Therapist, I knew what I needed to do for my injury but I was frustrated and felt that my body had failed me.

Because I was unable to participate in my usual exercise routine including my favorite yoga class, I signed up for a series of private Yoga Sessions. I learned a sequence designed to address my imbalances, offered core awareness, and quietly supported my shoulder as it healed. Most of all, the sequences that I practiced at home gave me something to “do” while my body healed. I felt as if a weight had been lifted. There was hope and confidence that I could once again return to the activities I enjoyed. And with time and consistent practice, I achieved my goals.

My injury journey fueled my passion for guiding empty nesters sidelined with nagging and sometimes embarrassing symptoms to regain their freedom through my whole-body approach.  I believe in treating the whole body, not just the broken part because I have experienced this myself. It would be an honor to do the same for you.

I have been active in sports for most of my life. I was involved in youth soccer, basketball, and softball as a kid. Then I turned to running, mountain biking, and road biking to reach my early adult fitness goals. Now, yoga has become my go-to movement and breathing practice for exercise and stress management.

Life is meant to be full of fun and adventure. If you’ve been sidelined by nagging aches and pains,  together we can build a practice that allows you to maintain your active lifestyle.

My Journey Into Physical Therapy…

Nagging running injuries led me to see a Physical Therapist and something clicked.  I wanted to understand how the body, as a machine, worked and connected all its parts.

Physical Therapy internships brought me to Colorado where the sunshine and outdoors became my playground for almost 29 years.  While there I strengthened my PT skill set working Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Boulder, CO.  After several years there, I moved on to outpatient rehabilitation for the next 25 years.

Women’s Health…

I was asked to learn about treatment for incontinence to expand the Physical Therapy clinic services.  Treatment of the pelvic floor was new to me and I was less than enthused to be tasked with this.

I was given the book, “Staying Dry” by Kathryn Burgio, MD. to read before committing to continuing education. The book talked about the musculoskeletal connection between the bladder and pelvic pain. Turns out, these problems aren’t just in women’s heads!

I got up on my women’s lib soapbox and dove deep down the rabbit hole of everything pelvic floor.  This included bladder and bowel issues, prenatal and postpartum issues, pelvic pain, gyn / urological cancers. As a Certified Prenatal and Postpartum Exercise Instructor,  I taught Pregnancy Fitness Essentials, which educates women in their childbearing years on how to care for their bodies during and after pregnancy.

As part of my Women’s Health studies, I studied with John F. Barnes for his myofascial release techniques. The technique is a gentle hands-on approach that releases fascial restrictions that can limit movement and range of motion in the body. It may be just what you need to create a breakthrough in your healing.

Certified Manual Physical Therapist (through NAIOMT)...

I held a Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association for 18 years while working with an athletic population. I studied to become a Certified Manual Physical Therapist to fully understand the anatomy and mechanics of every joint in the body.

This provided an opportunity to look deeper and to treat the cause of a client’s pain, rather than treating just the pain alone, which results in better, long-lasting results for you.

Yoga…

Yoga was recommended to me by so many of my healthcare practitioners over the years. A colleague invited me to join her in a class. I went and struggled through it, watching sweat dripping onto my yoga mat. I wondered why some poses were so difficult!

After class, my core muscles were trembling as I hung on the grocery cart to hold myself up while shopping.

But something in my gut said,  “Go back.”

I ended up in the class of the studio owner and was inspired to ask for a few private sessions.  After all, I was a Physical Therapist. I couldn’t risk hurting myself in class! I needed a little more one-on-one instruction.

My instructor convinced me to take her 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga teacher training. After the training, I was mentally and physically more flexible, managed stress better, and was in the best shape of my life.

I was given the opportunity to teach a yoga class for the Wellness Committee at the hospital where I worked as a PT. I taught a weekly class for 9 years, first at the hospital and then at my teacher’s studio.

In 2020, the pandemic changed my teaching to online classes. Now, I offer both in-person and virtual Yoga instruction.

I specialize in creating customized plans that will integrate restorative therapies that help you become more In Tune with your Body.

Yoga for Osteoporosis…

In 2017, I trained with Dr. Loren Fishman to teach his Yoga for Osteoporosis. He says yoga has beneficial side effects such as more “elegant posture, better balance, greater range of motion, improved strength, finer coordination, lower anxiety, and many more curative properties”.

Since completing his training program, I have taught private, semi-private, and workshop classes teaching his series of poses.

My goal is to educate clients on safer ways to move (or safer body mechanics as we say in physical therapy) in hopes of helping people avoid falls and fractures due to osteoporosis.

From Hospital Outpatient Clinic to Private Practice…

After almost 29 years in large clinics from acute care hospitals, to private practices and most recently in a large outpatient hospital-based rehab clinic, I wanted to make a change to a more holistic focus. I was ready to:

  • Spend time with my clients

  • Minimize the red tape

  • Really be able to treat clients holistically rather than having to focus on one specific joint or area of the body

All of this has brought me to enter a new phase of my career. I now offer specialized one-on-one holistic care, to help clients find a sustainable path to resuming an active lifestyle.
